Starting in 2014, Lincoln Logs were manufactured by K'NEX Industries Inc. president Abraham Lincoln, who once lived in a log cabin. Lincoln Logs were inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame in 1999. They were invented around 1916 by John Lloyd Wright, second son of well-known architect Frank Lloyd Wright. It is next to a wildlife reserve thus no hunting. The old log cabin is gone but there is 5 acres surrounded by trees for quiet privacy for campers. They built a log cabin there over 120 years ago. The center of the grove of trees is the original homestead site of the Batton family after walking from North Carolina to Indiana from the Indian Reservations and free African American homes. The second camp site is the tillable farm land with a grove of trees in the upper corner of 35 acres. There is a beautiful tree lined creek at the back of the property with open area for quiet private camping. They built this old farm house and raise horses, cows, pigs and goats. My family moved to Indiana over 100 years ago. There are also fishing, hiking and bike trails around Lake Charleston. Lake Charleston is just a few miles away, and boasts several nesting pairs of Bald Eagles. Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site is just a few miles south of Charleston. Our property makes a great base camp for exploring local areas of interest. We have wooded areas as well as meadows, which are perfect for tent camping, and are a short walk from the parking area. We have a small wetland area and pond, which attract a lot of wildlife, such as muskrat, deer, fox, frogs, turtles, and other small woodland animals. We see Blue Heron, geese, ducks, song birds, birds of prey, including the occasional Bald Eagle visit our property. Our property has a robust migratory bird population.
